Can you believe it has been 3 years since we opened our doors?
We’re going to have a bit of a party, and Farset Labs invite you to come and celebrate with us on Monday 13th April – as a thank you for helping us on our way, and to look forward to many more years of nurturing local creative and technology endeavours.
Please do invite friends and well-wishers.
As well as being a general “Open/Social Evening”, we will of course have cake, snacks and drinks, plus a selection of our best boardgames and multiplayer video-games, plenty of opportunities to experiment with some of our projects and tools, and the all important “traditional” (not yet, but it will be) Farset birthday raffle, with some great prizes available, kindly donated to us by local and more distant organisations.
Some great raffle prizes have already been contributed by such generous benefactors as Intel Belfast, Brightwater, Buffer, Belfast Roller Derby, Miss McKeown’s extraordinary teas, rehabstudio, and our own excellent Farset brewers will be offering some of their latest.
We’re looking forward to seeing your wonderful face!
You are also welcome to BYOB.
(Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)
Yes folks, 2014 is Belfast’s first year hosting a Big Data Week, brought to us by our buddies at Analytics Engines. And we have the privilege of holding the last event in the series, at 18:00 on Fri 9 May. Anyone with a techie interest is welcome. There’ll be content for all knowledge levels and of course we’ll wrap-up in good time with some beer and snacks.
Speakers and content are being discussed at the moment but we’ve plenty lined-up so far, from educational tutorials to a lighter take on the dark side of data. This is a good chance to learn about the big data movement and debate the validity and impact of the trend.
Feel free to jump in on the discussion on our Discourse forum ahead of the event.
Other events are running at different venues between 7 and 9 May, with the main show being the Big Data Insights Conference at Titanic Belfast all day on the Wednesday. More at Big Data Week Belfast.
All are welcome but please register FREE here so we know you’re coming. And watch out for the Giro D’Italia road closures, including Gt Victoria St, which you can dodge by coming over to Sandy Row. Bloody cyclists, coming here, stealing our congestion!
Even as we count down to our Steampunk-themed birthday party this weekend (Tickets still available btw), we were approached to host one of the more esoteric events of the calendar; a Steampunk LARP.
LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing, and can be summarised as a cross between a costume party and an immersive acting improvisation session, with a dash of D&D thrown in, usually involving either historical, fantastical, or ‘alternate histories’ scenarios playing out with a cast of costumed characters imagining themselves in the part.
So on September 28th, we’ll be playing host to…
Steel and Water
It’s 1882 and Belfast sits proudly as the de facto capital of The Federated Northern Isles. Its docks bustle with trade from Scandinavia, Russia, the Americas and North Africa and the populace thrives within the established social classes of Tin, Brass, Silver and Gold. Boasting the worlds first subterranean, submarine public transit system and home to some of the worlds grandest and finest engineering Belfast is the very model of a modern city. However, civilisation and endeavour always come at a price and must always face trials; alongside glorious and novel developments come novelties that are darker and less palatable.
Steel and Water is an immersion roleplay experience in which you become your steampunk persona and face the challenges of an advanced and alternative Belfast.
Booking coming soon, updates here and on Facebook.
