Community Choice: Tech-Get-Together

Me Gusta

As we creep up towards 100 Facebook likes, it’s about time that we started some proper community events on a regular basis.

When do you want to have a weekly tech-get-together in the Event Space?

We want to open up the space to our community, just to chill out and chat about their working/playing week in a relaxed environment. We’ll try and provide some munchies and refreshments, as well as a few toys to experiment with.

Also, for anyone watching, We’ve enabled online purchasing for Monthly Individual memberships, and enabled a donation button on our Front Page, so whether you can make it down or not, it’s even easier to support what we’re trying to do here.

Also, incase you missed it, check out our Events calendar for upcoming madness at Farset Labs

Retro Rejuvenation

Jack Tramiel, founder of Commodore International and crucial figure in the early history of personal computing, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday. He was 83 years old.

Today saw even more donations come in, especially of some really cool old gaming hardware. So we’ve taken a rush of blood to the head and decided to take them all out of their boxes tomorrow (Tuesday), put them out on tables and have a play.

You’re more than welcome to join us and explore vintage systems or sit and work at your own projects. Watch the Twitter feed to see when we open up (it’ll be late morning)!

Liveblog: Launch-day Lunacy

Today is the day; After a long time coming (too long for some), Farset Labs is ready to launch in an ‘open beta’ stage.

From 1500, we’ll open the doors (for a small fee for non-members), and we’ll be live-blogging here for your delectation.

To get involved in the community; join us on IRC, Facebook, Twitter, or G+.

Donation Day

Thank you very much to everyone who has offered to donate equipment to Farset Labs – we’re very grateful, as members’ generosity is what has allowed us to start.

However, none of it is in the space yet, so we’d like to let you know that today (Wednesday 4th April), Farset Labs will be open for the dropping off of equipment from 11am to 6pm.

If you need something bulky picked up, we can send out reinforcements equipped with a trailer and if these times don’t suit you, don’t hesitate to get in contact (david@farsetlabs.org.uk or eoghan@farsetlabs.org.uk) to arrange a more convenient slot.

We advise that you give us a heads up before you come round to Farset Labs, as we may be away for short periods doing pick-ups of bulky items, but we’ll do our best to have someone around to let people in.

If you would like to add your equipment to the list of donations, we’d be very grateful. To do so, fill out our short donation form at http://bit.ly/donatetofarset

Launch-Day Hackathon

Friday 6th April, 1500 – Saturday 7th April 1500

This is our ‘soft launch’ event running with no equipment, no budget, very little furniture, no PR and a case of beer.

Entry will be £5, or Free for members (Sign-up will be available on-site, hint hint), and we’ll try and get some munchies/a few drinks in for everyone.

Repeat: We will have very few toys other than what can be donated, but we finally have a space with power and a network.

We can hack the building together (or apart, within reason) and start bringing the dream alive. Continue reading Launch-Day Hackathon
