Pot-luck Seasonal Dinner Experiment (Christmas Dinner)

Farset’s grand ad hoc pot-luck seasonal dinner hack was announced on the Discourse recently.
If you would like to partake of fellow Farset members and friends edible generosity, bring something tasty to share with others at Farset Labs.

The Date
The date for this is Wednesday 17th December at 7pm.

Welcome. Never leave.
Technically Christmas.

The Plan
Salutations of the season, no matter your persuasion or affiliation! Dinner is open to all who frequent Farset and have supported us through the dark times and the light.
Bring your preferred shareable food-stuff in a prepared state, to Farset Labs at 7pm. There will be disposable plates, cups and cutlery available for sharing. We will also have two microwaves on hand to re-heat anything hot that you bring with you – please bring it in a non-metal container if possible.
Please feel free to bring drinks – there will be the usual array of soft-drinks available.
Add your voice in the Discourse, or go to the Facebook event.

There will also be some accompaniments of the musical variety, and suitably bright decorations… um… decorating the place.

The Cost
There is no cost other than your company and some form of shareable (cold/hot, liquid/solid).

First Irish Region Pinball League Meet

Pinball_Dot_Matrix_Display_-_Demolition_ManThis Sunday sees Farset Labs host the first Irish Region Pinball League Meet (UK Pinball League – Season 9).

The first of four meetings of the Irish Region Pinball League will commence in Belfast on Sunday 30th November in the Event Space at Farset Labs. A choice of 4-5 tables will be available to play, including The Addams Family (Bally), Creature from the Black Lagoon (Bally), Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein (Sega) and Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends (DataEast), during free practice from 12:00 – 14:00, with competition time running from 14:00 – 18:00.

UK Pinball League Competition Rules and Guidelines

As its a regional meet of the UK Pinball League, an entry fee of £2 must be charged for adults – children play for free. For those attending, the entry fee will be paid at the door. This will contribute to a central prize fund. However, it’s more about getting pinball back on the map, so no matter your skill level, or even if you have never played before and fancy a look at some real pinball machines, come along and see what it’s all about.

Players can register their interest by emailing irish.pinball.league@gmail.com or signing up to the Eventbrite event.

24-Hour Comics Day: Tell Your Own Story

Farset Labs will be hosting 24 Hour Comics Day in Belfast – a world-wide event to create comics in 24 hours.

Scott McCloud presents at Geraphic Storytelling Festival in 2011

Have you ever wanted to create your own comic?

Take the 24-hour comics challenge, bring some pens/pencils and paper, and complete a full comic in a single day – add to the rich seam of graphical 24-hour story-telling founded by comics legend Scott McCloud and continued as an annual global phenomenon every year in October:
http://www.24hourcomicsday.com

Other comics artists and writers will be there throughout the day. Some scanning/photography equipment will be available for final submission to the 24-Hour Comics Day web-site. Free Wi-Fi will be available to all participants, plus you can chill out in our games lounge!

Snacks and drinks will also be on offer, so please consider making a small donation to the venue in return. Doors will open at 10am on Saturday 4th October, and participants are free to come and go throughout.

Register now via Eventbrite

Come along and create a wordless graphical narrative, or write a text-piece with a visual flow. Even if you don’t think you can create plot, find someone who can. Most importantly: create something 🙂

UPDATE:

Forbidden Planet Belfast are kindly donating a raffle prize for the event, and we will have some art supply spot prizes for some of the cool ideas expected to manifest themselves

Belfast GameCraft is back; Jam season returns.

Belfast GameCraft

As the nights close in during October, warm your creative engine with some tasty Game Jam at Farset Labs. Our friends at GameCraft will be returning for a day-long game jam on Saturday 18th October, with a panel of independent game developers judging the winners.

GameCraft is a games jam event to build, bind and encourage the gaming community to make their ideas happen. This latest Belfast date forms part of a chain of GameCraft events starting back in 2012 with 120 people producing more than 35 games at the first event; since then it has been hosted in Belfast, Dublin, London, New York, and at huge national games events like Insomnia.

The jam is based on a secret theme, announced on the Saturday morning.

With that as your starting point, no matter your particular interests or skills, the task of making a game in a single day begins.

Anyone who has been to a game jam before can tell you about the excitement of getting started, and the satisfaction of getting to the end – in between are the half-baked ideas that just about work, the quarter-baked short-cuts that work better than they deserve to, and the ages of concentration to get an animation right because it makes the character “just perfect”. It’s a fun ride, and GameCraft concentrates all of this into one day, so there’s none of the crazy-sleepless-zombie-coding seen at weekend jams.

Come to have fun! Come to share ideas or just compete! Most of all, come and make games!

This is a BYOC event, but Farset can provide external monitors on request.

You can find more information about GameCraft, and register for GameCraft Belfast, on their site. Registration is required to take part.
